Kumaun University

Headquartered at Nainital, Kumaun University is a residential cum affiliating university, offering excellent research and teaching in its picturesque campuses in Nainital and Almora. Academic programs have been segregated in both the campuses to ensure equal regional representation and development. The University, which has several affiliated colleges under its banner, has educational jurisdiction over the whole Kumaun region. The University offers excellent teaching and high quality research with emphasis on Kumaun.  

The University campus located at Nainital caters to the needs of professional, technical and vocational education. The University has established collaborations with the university of Maiduguri and Nigeria to offer study abroad opportunity for its students. The academic courses offered by the University ranges from conventional courses, Biotechnology, Pharmacy and Tourism to the vocational courses like Taxation, Tourism, and Functional English. Owing to the landscape which is on undulating high ground of Nainital, the university offers excellent research and teaching facilities. Enormous herbs and plants as well as rocks, minerals and eco systems can be studied at the University. The university has also established a good reputation for itself by offering research and teachings in the fields of Environmental Geology. Adding to it the University has raised awareness in a variety of topics including economic resources, medicinal plants, environment, development of tribes, human rights and symmetries and conservation.

 

Thanks to it being a residential university, outstation students can stay here to pursue their studies. The University has developed some highly recognized centers of scientific and social researches. It organizes national and international seminars regularly to generate awareness. It has published several research journals besides housing a University library that has a rich collection of reference books.

 

Established in 1973, Kumaun University was founded under the Uttar Pradesh State Act. Its Nainital campus has been named DSB Campus while Almora campus has been christened MSJ Campus. The university was founded by a UP Government notification dated November 23, 2006.
