Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University is first of its kind university in India. The university imparts quality physical education and sports education. The university was established under an Act of the Government of Tamil Nadu 2004. Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University has played a vital role in promoting physical education in the country. Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC). The institution facilitates education throughout the state of Tamil Nadu, through its four faculties, eleven departments and ten affiliated colleges.
Educational Streams
Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University offers innovative and exceptional courses in various disciplines at different levels. The courses are also offered by distance education programme, which serves as cost effective measure for the deprived and underprivileged section of society. The university plans to have a vast network of study centers throughout the country, to provide excellent education to the young aspirants.
Currently, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University offers Diploma in Movement Education, Adapted Physical Education, Yoga, Coaching, Exercise, Physiology and Nutrition, Sports Psychology and Sociology, Sports Bio-Mechanics & Kinesiology, Production Management, Marketing Management, Infrastructure Management, Sports Marketing and Information System. University also offers UG and PG degree courses. Also research based programmes are also offered in Sports Psychology and Sociology, Sports Bio-Mechanics & Kinesiology.
Courses offered by the university, through the Distance Education Program, include M.B.A in Sports Marketing, Sports Information Technology along with M.Sc in Information Technology, Psychology and Sports Journalism. Besides PG Diploma in Sports Marketing, Sports Information Technology, Sports Psychology, Sports Journalism are also offered.
History
Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University was established in 2004 and become operational from September 15, 2005. Coincidently, the year was declared as International year for Sport and Physical Education, by the United Nations. Since its inception, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University has become the premier institution in India, in physical education.
