Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, located in Hyderabad, was founded by the state government with the merger of Sahitya, Sangeetha, Nataka, Nritya and Lalitha Kala Academies, International Telugu Institute and Telugu Bhasha Samithi into one. Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University functions as central organization for teaching and research in language and literature, history and culture, fine arts and performing arts, religion and philosophy of the Telugu speaking people.
Educational Streams
Telugu University aims to facilitate and regulate advanced study and research in Telugu language, art, culture, music, stage-plays, painting, sculpture, architecture, archaeology, language, literature, grammar, linguistics, history, religion etc. Apart from the regular courses conducted at the University campus, it also offers distance learning education in several subjects.
Certificate to postgraduate courses are offered via correspondence. Recognizing its duty to serve larger society, the university also conducts extension activities. Apart from its main campus at Public Gardens in Hyderabad, the University has several other campuses which it uses to run its courses.

Facilities
Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University offers hostel facility to the outstation students. Hostels are located in its Hyderabad, Rajahamundry and Srisailam campuses. The University houses an auditorium, which is sometimes rented out to other literary and cultural organizations for their programmes.
The university also has an air-conditioned art gallery to exhibit the paintings of artists. The university also has Telugu Through The Ages Museum which has three galleries. Paintings displayed here are masterpieces of distinguished artists.

History
Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, established on 2nd December, 1985, through an Act of Legislation (Act No. 27 of 1985) is headquartered at Hyderabad. It is one of the few language universities in India.
