Global Open University, located at Wokha in Nagaland, was established by an Act of the Government of Nagaland. It has been recognized by the Distance Education Council. Apart from its main campus at Wokha, it has two more campuses situated at Kohima and Dimapur in Nagaland. The university has opened the gate for vocational and job oriented courses in the North-East in general and in Nagaland in particular.
Educational Streams
The Global Open University has established several schools under its banner for conducting different programmes. The university offers a wide number of courses ranging from bio-informatics to tourism. It conducts educational programmes in almost all the levels of higher education covering graduation, post-graduation and PhD. A unique feature of this university is that it does not offer courses in regular streams like literature, history, etc. Rather all the courses offered by the university are need based and job oriented.
It offers Bachelors degree in Library and Information Sciences, Business Administration, Computer Application, Journalism & Mass Communication and Environmental Science. Besides these undergraduate courses it also offers post-graduation and M Phil in a number of professional disciplines like Bioinformatics, Nanotechnology, Disarmament Studies, Health Care & Hospital Administration, Business Administration, Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Management etc.
Facilities
The university campus located at Kohima is equipped with computer, internet and reprographic facilities for conducting distance learning programmes. A national resource centre has been also been established here for preparing self instructional materials to be used by the students admitted in different programmes. A Youth Hostel Complex has been allotted at Dimapur by the Government of Nagaland to the University for conducting tourism, hotel management, catering technology, applied nutrition and other job oriented courses.

The Global Open University, Nagaland was established on 18th September 2006 by the Government of Nagaland under the Global Open University Act 2006 (Act 3 of 2006). The University is headquartered at Wokha and it has established two Branch Campuses at Kohima and Dimapur.
