Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is entrusted with the responsibility of conducting Geologists examination in order to shortlist potential candidates for various vacant posts in Geological Survey of India and Central Ground Water Board. These posts include Geologist Group A, Jr. Hydro geologists (Scientist B), Group A and Assistant Hydro geologists Group B posts under the respective two categories. The test is the gateway for aspirants, meeting the eligibility criteria, to enter into jobs in Government sector for geology and hydrogeology. UPSC Geologists’ Exam is among the highly competitive job entrance examinations in India, which is conducted every year.
Final selection of the candidates is based on their performance in written exam, followed by interview for personality test. It is mandatory to appear for UPSC Geologists' Exam in order to get recruited at aforementioned posts. The candidates, who are selected under category I or under category II are appointed on probation period for two years.
Every year, UPSC Geologists examination is conducted in the month of November or December. Notification regarding the details of the examination is usually issued in the month of June. For the year 2011, the notification is expected to be out on August, 13, 2011, while the three-day long job entrance exam is supposed to commence from December, 3, 2011.
