Special Class Railway Apprentices (SCRA) exam is a competitive recruitment exam, which is conducted by Union Public Services (UPSC) for selecting and recruiting candidates as probationary railway officials under the Government of India. The job entrance test is conducted at various test centers throughout the country. Selected candidates, who qualify in the written test, are called for personality test, which is also conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). A candidate can get recruited as trainee official in Indian Railways only after qualifying the last stage i.e. interview or personality test.
The Board of interviewers certainly keeps a record of the candidate’s career, with details of both academic and extracurricular activities. Therefore, the candidates should be well prepared for the interview. The interviewers may ask questions on matters of general interest. Any particular format for interview is not followed. It may or may not be in question-answer round or may be a rapid-fire round. Special attention is paid to assessing the candidate’s potential qualities of leadership, initiative and intellectual curiosity, tact and other social qualities, mental and physical energy, power of practical application and integrity of character. The Board or selection committee communicates with the candidate purposefully to scrutinize his/her inner qualities.
