UPSC Indian Engineering Services Examination, which is also referred to as IES Exam, is conducted to select deserving candidates in order to get employed at vacant seats in engineering services in the government sector. These engineering services include numerous vacant posts divided into four categories, which comprises of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. In order to secure seats in the competitive UPSC Engineering Services Examination, the candidates are required to score qualifying marks in the written examination. The candidates who score qualifying marks are then called for personality test. The candidates, as per their convenience, can appear for the exam at any of the test centers, located across the country, allocated by the Commission.
UPSC Indian Engineering Services Examination Eligibility Criteria
In order to appear for UPSC Engineering Services Examination, the candidates are required to meet certain eligibility criteria, details of which have been mentioned below:
Nationality: The candidate should be a citizen of India. The subject of Nepal, Bhutan or Tibetan refugee who came over to India prior to 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, are eligible subject to the restriction they possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the government of India in their favor.
Age limit: The aspirants desirous to appear for UPSC Engineering Services Examination are required to be aged between 21 to 30 years as on 1st August of the year of examination. Relaxation in age limit is there for candidates belonging to certain reserved categories that includes departmental candidates as well.
Educational Qualification: The candidates with an engineering degree of a recognized University are eligible. Those, who possess M. Sc or its equivalent degree with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects are also eligible, but for certain Services/posts only. Aspirants, who are appearing for their qualifying examination, are also eligible to appear for UPSC Engineering Services Examination, provided they submit the proof of passing the requisite examination during the final selection procedure.
