Oral Medicine is a stream of health care, which is neither completely a part of dentistry nor medicine. It is concerned with non-surgical and non-dental pathology of the face affecting the Maxillofacial region of the face. Master of Dental Surgery in Oral Medicine is a three-year post graduate degree programme, during which pupils are taught to recognize the symptoms of diseases that affect the maxillofacial region of face as well as prevention and surgery in extreme cases.
Any one with a BDS degree from dental college recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI) along with permanent registration with any of the state dental councils or DCI can aspire to take admission in this programme. Institutes offering this course offer admission to candidates on the basis their performance in entrance exam, which may be conducted at the state or the national level.
