Established in 1943, Utkal University is among the oldest universities in India. The present campus of the teaching-cum-affiliating university is located at Vani Vihar in Bhubaneshwar. The university has extensive listing of affiliated colleges under its jurisdiction. The motto of the University is 'Satyam Param Dheemahi'. Utkal University has been recognized by UGC and it also has the membership of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Educational Streams
Utkal University, among the largest educational institutions in India, conducts higher education through M Phil / Ph D / Masters / Bachelors / Diploma programs in extensive branches of most of the academic areas. Besides full-time education, the Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education (DDCE) is a constituent institution of Utkal University established with the objective of providing quality education to the vast majority of working and adult learners and continuing education to all sections of the society through Distance and/or continuing education mode. Besides all this, Self-financed courses are also in the listing of University prospectus.
Facilities
The University offers accommodation facilities to the students in the hostels. Guest Houses, Student Council, Computer Center, University Library, Gymnasium and Health Center are other key facilities are offered by the university and its institutions. Placement cell continues with its main purpose to search better opportunities to deserving students.
History
Utkal University was established after the passing of Orissa University Bill in Orissa Legislative Assembly in 1943. In 1966 that act was repealed and a new Utkal University Act came into effect from 1 January 1967. At first, Utkal University was operating from the Ravenshaw College, before it came to its own campus at Bhubaneswar, called Vani Vihar.
