University of Gour Banga is a state university, established under the West Bengal Act XXVI of 2007. It is located in Malda district of West bengal and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. Territorial jurisdiction of the University spreads across three districts of North Bengal namely, Malda, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur. The University campus is in Malda, previously known as Gour.
Educational Streams
More than 30 colleges are currently affiliated to University of Gour Banga. It offers postgraduate courses in English, Bengali, Arabic, Sanskrit, History, Education and Mathematics. Undergraduate courses are available in Honors subjects of English, Bengali, Arabic, Urdu, Sanskrit, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Geography, Education, Economics, Sociology, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Computer Science and Commerce. Professional courses on Communicative English and Office Management are also conducted. Undergraduate elective subjects offered by the university are English, Bengali, Arabic, Urdu, Sanskrit, Hindi, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Geography, Education, Economics, Sociology, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Commerce and Physical Education.

Gour Banga University provides infrastructural and other facilities to ensure high quality education. Educational activity is integrated with the infrastructure available. History
Gour Banga University was established by the Government of West Bengal via a gazette notification on 10 March, 2008. The campus of the University started functioning from 1st June, 2008, within the premises of Malda College.
