Established in 1968, University of Calicut is a teaching cum affiliating university in the southern state of Kerala in India. The main campus of the university is situated at Thenjipalam, in the district of Malappuram. Two other campuses are at Trichur and Calicut. Situated in sylvan surroundings, the campus has an ideal natural environment for education. The University endeavors to promote technical education, conduct research and training in the social sciences and languages, and promote arts and culture specific to Kerala.
Educational Streams
Calicut university offers an array of degrees in a multitude of disciplines. More than 100 colleges are affiliated to the university. These include the colleges imparting degrees in disciplines as diverse as Law, Engineering, Medical, Ayurveda, Teachers Training and Oriental Title. The university conducts courses in professional education including Hotel Management, Tourism Management, Social Work, Multimedia Management, Mass Communication and Journalism, and Library and Information Science. Curriculum has been designed to meet the changing demands of the academic and industrial sectors. Department of Distance Education conducts correspondence courses for the students who have been unable to avail regular courses.
Facilities
The university has enough facilities to support the students for their academic pursuit. The central library has sufficient stock of reference books, magazines and journals. The students can hang out at the cafeteria in their free time. The university recognizes the importance of sports and extra-curricular activities in the all-round development of students.
History
