Sathyabama University is located in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu. It is a private institute of higher education, conducting courses in the fields of engineering and management studies. It has been accredited with “B++” grade by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), which is the highest grade attained by any Deemed University in the State of Tamil Nadu. It has also been accredited by the Institution of Engineers and has ISO 9001:2000 certification for professional quality management.
Educational Streams
Sathyabama University offers a variety of courses for the students to choose from several branches of engineering at UG and PG level. The courses include programmes in Sciences, Management, Computers and other disciplines. It offers postgraduate courses for working professionals to enhance their academic achievements. The university also caters to non-formal education for the rural youth, by offering certificate courses as a part of its interest towards social responsibility for the economic and social development of rural areas. Iis the only academic organization of its kind in the country that conducts an evaluation of teachers by the students in order to assess the effectiveness of teaching, with meritorious teachers being given away Best Teacher awards annually. It undertakes research and development activities in the emerging thrust areas and has been able to develop new innovative courses based on the industry and societal demands.
Sathyabama University has collaborated with reputed national and international institutes, research and development organizations, and industries to facilitate exchange of ideas. It has also undertaken various sponsored and collaborative research and development projects funded by prominent national organizations such as Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) etc,. Apart from all this it also conducts non formal education programmes through Village Resource Centres (VRCs) all over the state.
Facilities
Sathyabama University’s campus is spread over a few acres on the IT Highway of Chennai city. It provides the necessary infrastructural facilities including more than 125 class rooms, modern laboratories, drawing halls, work shops, central and departmental libraries, hostels, audio visual halls, spacious dining halls and sports facility. General facilities provided by the University include video conferencing, Internet, gymnasium, bank extension counter, health centre, transport and central mess.
History
On 16th July 2001, Sathyabama University was granted the Deemed University status by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. The University has originated from Sathyabama Engineering College, a Christian Minority institution established by Jeppiaar Educational Trust in 1987.
