Punjabi University is one of the premier institutions of higher education in the state of Punjab. It was established in 1962 under the University Act 1961. Punjabi University is an important center of learning in the state. It has been awarded 'A' grade university by National Accreditation and Assessment Council, NAAC. The university has to its credit the publishing of the Encyclopaedia of Sikhism in four volumes.
Educational Streams
The university offers integrated course of six years in engineering to the students. It conducts short-term linguistic and culture immersion programs for the overseas Punjabi Youth for fostering a better understanding of Punjabi culture and heritage through different means. World Punjabi Centre has been established on the University Campus to provide a boost to the multi-dimensional nursing of the language. Apart from conducting courses like MBA, BCA, PGDCA and CCA courses, the university also offers several vocational courses. Specialized courses are conducted in Sports Physiotherapy, Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy and Neurological Physiotherapy. The establishment of a Centre for Teaching of Punjabi as a Foreign Language (CTPFL) and an Advanced Centre for Technical Development of Punjabi Language, Literature and Culture (ACTDPLC) are some efforts of the university to promote language.
Facilities
Punjabi University Patiala provides hostels accommodation to girl and boy students separately. There is a main Library containing a large amount of books and journals on several areas are available. Establishing a special Punjabi Reference Library, it has taken upon itself the responsibility of catering to the linguistic and cultural needs of the overseas Punjabis. The Health Centre of the University is also remarkable where all the primary treatments are executed by qualified medical personnel. Sports and Transportation services are provided to the learners and staff. Placement is ready to help out successful students in finding a job.
History
The university was established in 1962 under the Punjabi University Act 1961 in the state of Patiala as residential and Teaching University. Punjabi University has developed as one the largest University in the state.
