Patna University, seventh oldest university in India and first in Bihar, was established in 1917. The university has true national character which transcends the linguistic, cultural and political boundaries. Patna University has several constituent and affiliated colleges, imparting education in diverse fields. The university was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as early as 1956.

Facilities
Departmental/Seminar libraries are attached to all the postgraduate departments and colleges. The University has a Central Library too. Separate residential accommodation is provided to boys and girls. Seminars and workshops are regularly organized to ensure maximum possible exposure for the students. Extra-curricular activities are held on regular basis.
History
Patna University was established in 1917 to cater to the growing need for higher education in Bihar, Orissa and Nepal. History of Patna University is directly associated with the history of modern Bihar.
