Founded in 1962, Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) is located in the city of Bhubaneswar, Orissa. The second oldest agriculture university in the country, Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology is dedicated to agriculture related research, extension and education. It has three academic campuses across Orissa. OUAT is a multi-faculty technical University with an earned status of being a leader in teaching, research & extension. The university is approved by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and University Grant Commission, UGC.
Educational Streams
Aiming to provide quality education in agricultural science and technology, the university offers B Sc/M Sc (Agricultural), B Sc (Forestry), B VSc & AH MV Science, B Tech, M Tech B Sc (Home Science), B F Science, M F Science, +2 Science, B Sc (Pass & Hons), M.C.A., M Sc (Microbiology), M Sc (Bioinformatics) and Ph D in some branches. The selection procedure is purely on merit basis.
The University has the duty of generating and refining technologies for farmers and developing technology transfer models for use of the departments connected with developmental activities for the benefit of the farming community of the state. In addition, Distance Education Program provides agricultural education to the literate farmers, farm women, school dropouts and unemployed youth for empowering them so as to go for self-employment. Research Centres of the University are located at several places in Orissa.
Facilities
The university offers hostel accommodation as per the availability of seats. There is an excellent central library, well stocked with texts and reference books along with the magazines and journals of National and International repute. An e-library has also been developed. State-of-the-art Computing facilities are available in the Computer labs. An active placement cell helps in campus/off campus recruitments for its students.
History
Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) came in to existence as the second Agricultural University in 1962 through an act passed by the Orissa Legislative Assembly. Under the USAID program, OUAT developed linkages with the University of Missouri and Mississipi, a Land Grant University of the US, to strengthen its teaching, research and extension programs. So far a large number of farmers have been enrolled in different courses.
