Lalit Narayan Mithila University

Lalit Narayan Mithila University or LNMU Darbhanga is a teaching-cum-affiliating University. Mithila University was established by an ordinance in 1972. The university has under its jurisdiction several constituent colleges as well as affiliated colleges. It has been recognized by University Grant Commission (UGC) in 1986 on account of its performance in providing education and training. LNMU Darbhanga is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

 

Lalit Narayan Mithila Vishvidyalaya offers Under Graduate (Three years)/ Post Graduate (Two years), Certificate, Diploma Course, P.G. Diploma / Ph.D. and Vocational courses. The University constantly adopts new technologies to uplift the quality of teaching and training. It is linked with several national and international organizations in the perspective of teaching. Self-financing courses run by the university are Master of Business Administration, Masters in Biotechnology, and Certificate / Diploma in Computer Application. Several vocational courses are also offered in this temple of higher education.

 

Mithila University Darbhanga has a central library with books on variety of subjects along with journals on various disciplines that take care of the needs of the students. Three hostels Bagmati, Gandak and Koshi are available for boys, while Archana Hostel is for girls. The hostels are equipped with all basic amenities. A large stadium and auditorium is also available in the university campus. The University has its own health centre with full and part time medical personnel.

 

Lalit Narayan Mithila Vishvidyalaya, Darbhanga was established as a result of the desire of the people of this region to have a centre of higher technical education. It was established by an ordinance in 1972 carving out a university out of Bihar University, Muzaffarpur.
