University of Kashmir is situated at Hazratbal in Srinagar. Recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC), University of Kashmir is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU). National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) has awarded it A++ grade considering its contribution to higher education in the area. The University of Kashmir is spread over 263 acres of verdant land with three adjacent campuses of picturesque landscape.
Educational Streams
UoK offers various courses through regular medium as well as distance mode. It also provides opportunities to join research courses in several domains. Being a pioneering organization in regular courses, it conducts Distance Education in most of its faculties. The Professional Vocational Courses are also the part of university prospectus and being conducted for educated unemployed youth for income generation, skill development, employability, self sustenance etc and for in service personnel for updating and upgrading their knowledge and skill. Courses of conventional as well as short-term are the key components of the university prospectus.
Facilities
The University grants comfortable residential facilities on first-come-first-served basis to both boy and girl students in separate hostels. Besides the departmental libraries, the University offers central library with a large collection of books, leading national and international journals and magazines.
History
The University of Kashmir came into existence in 1965 after the separation of the University of Jammu & Kashmir into two individual universities, the University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir. The University came up out of humble origins immediately after Independence when in 1948 the State Government established an institute for conduct of examinations with its headquarters at Srinagar.
