Kalyani University

Kalyani University is a state university established and managed by the Government of West Bengal. Situated at a distance of about 50 km away from Kolkata, Kalyani University is an academic hub of sub urban region of West Bengal. The University provides academic guidance and leadership to several affiliated degree colleges and its territorial jurisdiction extends to the districts of Nadia, Murshidabad and parts of North 24 Parganas.

 

At the University of Kalyani, students can avail a wide range of courses that include PG Diploma or Certificate, under graduate, post graduate, M. Phil and Ph. D programmes. The university focuses on rural economy and the need and aspirations of the youth in the region. It promotes inter-disciplinary research and endeavors to attain balance between basic and applied research programmes. 

Directorate of Open & Distance Learning (DODL) conducts correspondence courses for the students who are otherwise deprived of higher education. Besides the regular disciplines, the University has introduced a wide range of curriculam in different fields. Admission for academic programmes are conducted on the basis of merit list.

 

Kalyani University provides all the basic infrastructural facilities to students within its campus that include a Central Library, Laboratories, Health Centre, Gymnasium and sports facilities, Hostels, Guest House, Canteen, Press etc. There are separate hostels for accommodating male and female students, post-graduate students and research scholars. The central library has volumes of books and journals and a separate computer center that serves the purpose of enhancing computer awareness among students of the university.

 

Established in 1960, with a campus in Kalyani town, the University of Kalyani was set-up in the post independence period.
