Junagadh Agricultural University, set up in 1972 by the Government of Gujarat, offers education in agriculture and allied sciences i.e., agriculture, agricultural engineering and fisheries. The university has its educational jurisdiction over the districts of Junagadh, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Surendranagar, Bhavnagar and Amreli. Scientists of this university are credited for developing first hybrid bajra and hybrid castor in India.

Junagadh Agricultural University runs colleges offering graduate and post graduate programs in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Fisheries, and Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry. It also awards MBA degree on Business Management. Diploma/Certificate Coursers in the field of Agriculture, Horticulture, Livestock, Bakery and Mali.
The university endeavors to develop skills of practical application of modern management tools and techniques as applied to agri-business sector. It undertakes research projects on client specific problems and general problems facing agriculture. Multidisciplinary research stations have been set up for the development of new varieties/hybrids of crops, vegetables and fruits. Extension education activities are also undertaken up by the university.

Facilities
Central Library serves the colleges and research centres under the university. Documentation facilities and newspapers clippings are available. It has collection of Agricultural Database like CAB, AGRICOLA & AGRIS. Apart from the Central Library, various departments have their own separate libraries too. Internet browsing facilities is also available in the library. Training camps and seminars are regularly held to provide exposure to the students.
History
The Gujarat Agricultural University, established in February 1972, was separated into four different Agricultural Universities in the State by the University Act-2004 of Gujarat Agricultural University. Junagadh Agricultural University is amongst these four Universities that came into existence from 1st May, 2004. Seperation of Gujarat Agricultural University was done to strengthen activities of agricultural education, research and extension education at regional level.
