Jai Prakash Vishwavidyalaya

Jai Prakash University, a prestigious center in higher education in the state of Bihar, was established in 1990 by the enactment of Bihar State Universities Act, 1976. The territorial jurisdiction of the university extends over the whole of Saran Division comprising three districts of Chapra, Siwan and Gopalganj.

 

JP University offers job oriented vocational courses for bridging the gap between education and financial status of the population of the region. Students of weaker sections are encouraged to attain education under Distance Education Programmes of the University which brings higher education to their doorstep. Three-Year Degree Programmes are offered in the streams of Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, and Commerce. 

Three-Year Programmes in Law (LLB) is also available at the university.

Jai Prakash Vishwavidyalaya offers Post Graduate in Humanities, Social Sciences, Science and Commerce faculties. PhD admissions are made on merit of the Pre-PhD admission test conducted by the University. 

Recognizing the importance of professional courses in today’s world, Jai Prakash University soon plans to launch courses like Computer Application, Business Administration, Journalism & Mass Communication and Library Information Science.

 

Several vocational courses are offered under self-finance scheme. These are BSc Honors in Biotechnology, Industrial Microbiology,         Industrial Fish & Fisheries, and Environmental Science. BA Honors is conducted in Advertising, Sales Promotion & Sales Management, Functional Hindi, Functional English, and Communicative English.

 

Jai Prakash University has a central library that boasts of a variety of books and study material to support the students. Distance education students can get study materials at their doorsteps. Necessary academic guidance is provided to all the needy students. Sports and Cultural councils are part of the university.

 

Jaya Prakash University, Chapra was carved out of Bihar University, Muzaffarpur in 1990. Since its inception, the university has made significant contribution to the academic sector of Bihar in Chapra region.
