Guru Ghasidas University

Guru Ghasidas University (GGU) is a Central University located at Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. Guru Ghasidas University was established in 1983. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited it with B+ status.

 

Guru Ghasidas University is a leading center of higher education in this part of Chhattisgarh. The university has put up an ideal blend of conventional and professional education. At the same time, regional aspirations and knowledge has also been taken care of. 

Faculty of Engineering imparts graduate courses in Computer Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial & Production Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Information Technology. 

Business Administration is taught at Masters and Doctorate level. Professional courses like Journalism & Mass Communication, and Library & Information Science are also offered by the university. Adult & Continuing Education program of the university has been quite useful for those who have been unable to get the benefit of education in their schooling days.

Guru Ghasidas University Institute of Distance Education (GGU IDE) offers distance ducation programmes/courses to students across the state and other parts of India.

 

GGU Bilaspur provides various facilities to its students. Some of the important facilities are central library, transport, health care, canteen, post-office and banking services. Separate hostels are available for boys and girls. Library of the university has more than 85,000 books and thousands of projects / thesis. It has internet facility too. There is a cultural club that is committed to develop the students' non-academic talents.

Guru Ghasidas University (GGU) was established by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly in 1983 as Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya. The university is suitably named to honor the great Satnami Saint Guru Ghasidas who championed the cause of the downtrodden and waged a constant effort against all forms of social evils and injustice existing in the society. Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya was given the status of a Central University under Central University Ordinance 2009, No. 3 of 2009.
