Gulbarga University, located on 860 acres of land in outskirts of Gulbarga, has been functioning as a university since 1980. The educational jurisdiction of the University spreads across five districts Karnataka namely, Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur, Bellary and Koppal. Apart from the main campus, which is located near the Gulburga city, the university has affiliated several colleges.
Educational Streams
University of Gulbargaoffers PhD, MPhil, Post-graduate, and Undergraduate programmes in various disciplines. The University has established scores of post-graduate departments and centres at Krishnadevarayanagar, Bellary, Raichur and Bidar. Admissions are subject to availability of seats. For securing admission in M.Phil course a student is required to have passed the Master's Degree Examination of Gulbarga University or any other recognised University securing not less than 55% marks in the aggregate. However, for teachers with five years of teaching experience and candidate belong to SC/ST and Category-I the minimum marks required shall be 50% of the aggregate marks at the Master Degree exam. All the admissions are based on merit cum reservation policy.
Facilities
Gulbarga University offers all the basic facilities to its students that include hostel, health club, placement cell etc. The University has established separate hostels for girls and boys. Activities like NCC and NSS are promoted in the university. There is a SC/ST cell and a placement cell that works towards the benefit of the students. The library established at the University is one of the best in the region itself. The Central Academic Computer Centre aids to the Administrative and departmental needs. Along with providing internet facilities to all, the computer centre also serves as a training centre for the students of Arts and Social Science Departments.
History
In the year 1980, Gulbarga University was declared as a University by an Act of Karnataka State. Until 1970, it was functioning as a post-graduate centre of Karnatak University, Dharwad.
