Established in 1985, Goa University is the only university in the entire state of Goa. It is located on the outskirts of Panaji, the capital city. Goa university has been accredited with four star rating on a five-point scale by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Educational Streams
Bachelors courses are conducted in a wide range of subjects. Apart from traditional courses, Masters programs are conducted in professional subjects like International Studies, Computer Application, Earth Science, Marine Biotechnology, Microbiology, Marine Science, Financial Services, Business Administration etc.
On-campus PG diplomas are offered in Clinical Genetics and Medical Laboratory, Clinical Research, Applied Plant Sciences, and Marine Microbiology. Off-campus PG diplomas are conducted in Management, Computer Application, Tax Planning, Psychiatry and Human Behaviour, and MBBS. Candidates can also pursue Doctorates.
Distance Education, Information and Training Infrastructure (DEITI) is a bold initiative of the university. It is a live one-way video cum audio interactive facility, using Satellite Technology, Internet and Telecom network. It has been quite helpful in community development programs. Online Distance Learning Program (ONIGS) has been beneficial for the students who have hitherto been unable to get formal education. It also offers a course on online programme in Geoinformatics (GIS), in association with University of Salzburg, Austria. Refresher and orientation courses for college and university teachers are regularly conducted by the university.
Facilities
Limited Hostel accommodation is available for students. The university has a computer center with internet facility that helps students in exploring more information on various topics. Earn while you learn scheme has been introduced to meet the financial needs of the deserving students on the campus of Goa University.
Sports and cultural activities are regular at the university campus. Counselling, Career Guidance and Employment Cell take care of the students after they finish education. Goa university library houses a large number of books, journal and periodicals on diverse topics with online processing facility.

History
Goa University was set up in 1985 incorporating the then existing PG Centre for Instruction and Research of the University of Bombay. It has now become an esteemed centre of higher education in the state of Goa.
