Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya is a statutory University of the State Government of Madhya Pradesh. The University has been acknowledged by the State Government and the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. NAAC has awarded a four star status to the University and it has also won the Center of Excellence award by the Government of Madhya Pradesh. It is considered the best centre of IT education in the central part of the country.
Educational Streams
The University imparts education at UG/PG level in almost all the basic and professional disciplines. The University is famous for its courses in the fields of Computer, Information Technology, Management and Engineering, research work in fields of Education, Life Sciences, Physics, Economics and Chemistry and it has also established centers for Electronic Media, Adult Education and Information Technology. The University has carved a niche for itself by starting Computer Courses of MCA and MSc Computer Science (Software) funded by DOE (now MIT Govt of India), UGC 2 and DRDO and became one of twelve centers in the country and first time in Madhya Pradesh.
Facilities
The basic facilities like LCD Projectors and Internet access points in all class rooms, e-management of the University, e-submission of fees and forms by the students, Wi-Fi Campus and Hostels, e-grant of migration and eligibility certificates to students and establishment of e-record room are provided by the University. In addition to these facilities there is Hostel known as the Jawaharlal Nehru Boys Hostel, situated at unique peaceful location near university auditorium in Khandwa road campus. Basic amenities like co-operative mess, Attentive staff, nearness to campus and a conducive environment for research scholars is there in the hostel.
History
Devi Ahilya Vishwavidalaya was started functioning in the year 1964 to fulfill an act of legislative assembly of Madhya Pradesh. Originally known as the University of Indore, in the year 1988 it was renamed after the famous and benevolent ruler of Malwa, Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar. Devi Ahilya Vishwavidalaya is among the first few universities to have started B.Ed. in 1968 and MBA in 1969.
