Christ University, located in Bangalore, is a Deemed University. The prime objective of Christ Universiis to educate the minority Christian students who lag behind in educational opportunities. It was set up by Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of CMI congregation, who was a great educationalist and a social reformer of the 19th century. It is also the first organization in Karnataka to be accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) UGC for quality education.
Educational Streams
Christ University is a multi-campus University that lets the students choose from a wide array of courses offered under the Universities educational banner. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, M Phil and Doctoral programs along with certificate courses. The University is particularly known for its School of Law. Christ University has been approved by the Bar Council of India to conduct the B.A. LL.B. course.
In addition to the regular courses it conducts two international certificate courses namely ETS TOEFL iBT test and IATA / UFTAA. A unique feature of this University are the International Twinning Programmes conducted in the field of BA, Business Studies (Liverpool Hope University, UK), BA, English Language Studies (Swansea Uni, UK), BA - Media Studies (Swansea University, UK), BA in Business Management (Swansea University, UK), BBA (WMU, USA and IESEG, France), BBA in Tourism Management (NH TV BU, Netherlands), MBA (Ohio Univ. USA), Masters in Engineering (Swansea Uni, UK), MSc - Management (swansea Uni, UK) and MSc International Tourism Management (SHU, UK). Besides all these courses, it offers an India Gateway Program specially formulated for International Students.
Facilities
Infrastructure facilities like air-conditioned seminar halls, panel room, conference hall, assembly hall, auditorium, health club, kiosk, hostel for girl students are provided by the University. The University library houses a wide range of academic resources such as books, periodicals, online periodicals, databases, back volumes, CDs/DVDs, project reports, audio / video cassettes, and question bank. There are four computer labs equipped with the latest Intel microprocessor based computers. There is a laptop laboratory where students with laptop can plug in and use the internet. Besides these facilities it promotes sports and games activities at the campus for the students to help them attain physical growth and sportsman spirit. It has arrangements for games like basketball, football, volley ball and hockey. Intra-college and inter-college matches are regularly held.
History
Christ Group of Institutions was declared as Christ University under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development of the Union Government of India. It was originally known as Christ College (Autonomous) affiliated to Bangalore University, established in July 1969. It has also been conferred autonomy by UGC on 7th October 2004. Further it was identified it as an Institution with Potential for Excellence by UGC in June 2006.
