Anna University Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), situated along Tiruchirappalli-Pudukkottai Highway, has been established as a technical University by the Government of Tamilnadu. Educational jurisdiction of the University spreads across the districts of Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Nagappattinam, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Thanjavur, Tiruchirappalli, Tiruvarur, and Theni. The University has affiliated several Government, self-financing, and standalone institutions.
Educational Streams
Anna University Tiruchirappalli is an affiliating university with a number of colleges under it. The university offers undergraduate engineering degree programs in the faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. Post-graduate engineering courses are also offered in a number of disciplines through Modular Based Credit Banking Scheme. Besides this it has also established a Department of Management Studies that offers regular and Integrated MBA courses in its main campus with specializations in Finance, HR, Marketing, System & Operations. There is an integrated MSc course (Computer Science) of five year duration.
The University has also established a Centre for University Industry Collaboration (CUIC) that serves as a channel for the flow of expertise and knowledge between the University and Industry, by developing educational programs for the benefit of students, faculties, research scholars, placement and training officers as per industrial expectations.
Facilities
Besides offering educational programs the University also encourages the students to participate in extra-curricular activities. The National Service Scheme (NSS) at Anna University has been functioning regularly. The overall objective of NSS is to provide service to the community. It is a student centred programme where the NSS volunteers establish close collaboration with the clientele community and enabling the students to get proper exposure.
History
Anna University was formerly known as School of Engineering and Technology or the Bharathidasan Institute of Technology. In December 2007, the institute was converted into an affiliating university, absorbing almost all engineering colleges in the district of South under its administration.
