Andhra University

Andhra University is one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the country devoted to post-graduate teaching and research. The educational jurisdiction of the University spreads across five districts of Andhra Pradesh namely Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Vizinagaram and Srikakulam. University of Andhra has been recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) and is also an active member of the Association of Indian universities (AIU). It has also been awarded with an ISO 9001-2000 Certificate.

 

University of Andhra has pioneered in the field of education by introducing career-oriented courses as per the need of the society. The University offers a wide range of academic programs with a unique blend of the conventional and career oriented courses like Nuclear Physics, Instrumentation Engineering, Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture. 

Courses of contemporary relevance like Tourism Management, Journalism, Human Resource Management, International Business etc are also offered by the University. In order to protect and promote the traditional Indian culture, the university has patronized courses in Music, Fine arts, Acting and Play Direction.

Andhra University School of Distance Education (AU SDE) promotes courses and programmes in distance learning.

 

Andhra Universityoffers severalhostels for student accommodation within the University campus. Other amenities include post and Telegraph office, Banking facilities, University employment and Guidance bureau, training and placement centre and a sports complex attached to a Gymnasium Hall. Teacher staff quarters and University Press room established in the University campus are added advantages.

 

Andhra University was established in the year 1925 by the Madras Legislative Act, 1926. It was founded by Sir CR Reddy. Former President of India Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was one of the Vice-Chancellors who succeeded Dr. Reddy in 1931. The inaugural courses were Telugu language and literature, History, Economics and Politics. In the course of time, the university added battery of courses to its kitty.
