Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute was established in the year 1953. The college is affiliated to the University of Delhi and is a different one, among the colleges of the university, as it offers courses in the medical stream, at the postgraduate level. As the name suggests, VPCI Delhi is focused to the study related to chest diseases. Located in the main campus of the University of Delhi, the main objective of VPCI is to develop the research activities that are conducted to develop new diagnostic technology, and to share this knowledge with other institutes. Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute Delhi started functioning in 1953. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the then Deputy Prime Minister of India, laid the foundation stone of the Institute on 6th April 1949 and hence, the institute was named after him. Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute is totally funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
