St. Xavier's College Bombay/Mumbai (Maharashtra) is a Catholic educational institution with a strong focus on creative and critical thinking with its main focus being social transformation. The college was named after St. Francis Xavier, who was a saint in the 16th century. It was founded by the Society of Jesus, a group started by St. Ignatius in the year 1540. It was affiliated to the University of Bombay on January 30, 1869. St. Xavier’s College Mumbai conducts degree courses in the fields of science, commerce and arts. One of India's earliest colleges, St. Xavier's College Mumbai is known for its focus on good education and very strong extra-curricular activities such as the famous inter-collegiate festival ‘Malhar’.
The first students of St. Xavier’s College Bombay were a group of six students, who appeared for the University Matriculation examination in the year 1868 from St. Mary's Institution. The first three graduates of the college received their degrees in the year 1871. St. Xavier's College has, over the past many years, produced some of the famous personalities India has ever seen. Some of the famous alumni of the college include names like Sunil Gavaskar, Zubin Mehta, Soli Sorabjee, Rajdeep Sardesai, Shabana Azmi, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Ismail Merchant, Shobha De, Cyrus Broacha, Zakir Hussain and Vidya Balan.

Eligibility:
Undergraduate:
For the Bachelor’s Degree courses, the students must have passed the XIIth standard examination conducted by Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education or any examination recognized as equivalent.
Post Graduate:
Students should have done graduation in the relevant field, from any recognized University.
Doctorate:
To be eligible, the candidates should have done post graduation from a recognized University.
Admission Procedure:
Undergraduate:
Admissions to the First Year B.A./B.Sc./B.Com./BMS/BMM are conducted soon after the S.S.C. and H.S.C results are declared. The students are required to score a minimum essential percentage, which is determined by the number of seats available.
Post Graduate:
Candidates are selected on the basis of merit obtained by them in the qualifying examination.
