Established in 1980, Sri Taralabalu Jagadguru Institute of Technology (STJIT) is one of the leading educational institutions for higher education, in Karnataka. The college was found under Sri Taralabalu Jagadguru Brihanmath, a religious organization, well known in Karnataka for its services in the field of rural education. The college is affiliated to Visveswaraiah Technological University (VTU), and courses conducted by it are recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. With an aim to produce proficient engineers year after year, Sri Taralabalu Jagadguru Institute of Technology conducts undergraduate level programme in the field of technology - Bachelor of Technology (B Tech), a four-year full time programme.

Minimum qualification required is a pass in 10+2 or PUC-II examinations, with 45% marks in Physics, Mathematics (Compulsory subjects) along with one of Chemistry / Bio-Tech / Computer Science / Biology / Electronics subjects and English as one of the languages. For SC/ST candidates the threshold has been reduced to 40% marks.
Lateral entry admission to second year or 3rd semester of BE is allowed to candidates, who hold an Engineering Diploma awarded by the Board of Technical Education, the Government of Karnataka or any other Diploma considered equivalent for thereto.
