National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, formerly known as Regional Engineering College Rourkela, was established in 1961 as a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Orissa. It was accorded the status of a Deemed University and renamed as National Institute of Technology Rourkela in 2002. National Institute of Technology is managed and run by the Board of Governors of National Institute of Technology (Rourkela) Society. Eligibility:
Undergraduate:
BE / B Tech / UG / Undergraduate: Pass in the Higher Secondary or 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, is required for admission in BE/BTech courses.
Post Graduate:
M Tech
Pass in B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree in the relevant discipline with not less than 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in the qualifying examination is needed for admission in ME/MTech course. There is no relaxation in academic requirement for any category / caste of candidates.
For admission into M Tech (Research) one should have passed the final examination for the Bachelors degree in Engineering, Technology or Medicine or the Masters degree in Science including Mathematics and Statistics or Humanities/Social Sciences or a degree equivalent to any of them from a recognized University obtaining at least 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in the case of Engineering/ Science subjects and 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA in the case of Humanities/ Social Sciences/ Medicine subject.
MCA: One must have passed BSc with the subject applied for as one of the subjects (pass or Honours) and studied Mathematics at 10+2 level.
Doctorate:
Students should have passed BE/ BTech / MSc in relevant discipline with minimum 65% marks in aggregate or 7.0CGPA. OR cleared ME / MTech in relevant discipline with at least 60 percent marks in aggregate (or 6.5 CGPA) at both BTech / MSc and MTech levels. There is no relaxation in academic requirement for SC/ST/Handicapped students

Candidates having valid GATE scores are given preference for admission onto the M Tech course. Eligible candidates can apply under the sponsored quota having at least two years of working experience in the respective field.

For admissions into MCA course NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) is conducted every year.
