National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna is the eighteenth NIT to come into existence. The origin of NIT Patna can be traced to 1886 when the Survey Training School was established. In 1900, graduate level curriculum was introduced in the institute. The institute was renamed as Bihar College of Engineering Patna in 1924. In 2004, the college was upgraded to the status of National Institute of Technology and also declared as a 'Deemed University'. NIT Patna has awarded with an Institute of National Importance by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. NIT Patna imparts undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes in various branches of engineering and technology. All these programmes are offered according to the guidelines of the Central Government. NIT Patna provides its students state-of-the-art facilities within its sprawling campus.

Undergraduate:
Aspiring candidates should have passed 10+2 or Higher Secondary Examination or its equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as mandatory subjects.
Post Graduate:
For pursuing MTech one must possess a Bachelors degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area, with at least 60% marks or equivalent for General category students (55 % marks for SC/ST students).

Undergraduate:
Admission is granted to the eligible candidates on the basis of AIEEE scores. Students are admitted through a centralized admission process by Central Counseling Board (CCB) constituted by the Government of India, Ministry of HRD. Reservation of Seats is available as per government rules.
Entrance Test: AIEEE Exam
Post Graduate:
Candidates having valid GATE scores are given preference for admission onto the M Tech course. Eligible candidates can apply under the sponsored quota having at least two years of working experience in the respective field. However the sponsored candidates are not granted any financial support from the Institute.
