National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur is one of the premier engineering institutes of India. The institute was founded in 1960 and was formerly known as Regional Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur. NIT Jamshedpur is among the earliest eight Regional Engineering Colleges that were established as joint ventures between the Government of India and State Governments. In 2002, it was upgraded as National Institute of Technology (NIT) with the status of a Deemed University. In 2003, the engineering institute got totally under the control of Central Government. The institute imparts varoius undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate level programmes in the field of science and engineering. NIT Jamshedpur is spread over 320 acres of land, which consists of state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Eligibility:
Undergraduate:
A pass in the Higher Secondary or 10+2 examination with at least 50% marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics (45% of marks for SC Students and 40% of marks for ST students) is required for admission.
Post Graduate:
M.Tech
The candidates must have passed BE/B.Tech from any recognized University.
MCA
A bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration in any discipline with Mathematics at the 10 + 2 level or at the Bachelor's level is required for admission. BCA passed candidates are also eligible for this programme.
Doctorate:
For pursuing PhD one should possess a Master Degree in Engineering (in the relevant fields) or Science or MCA or MBA or its equivalent from a recognized University with at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination.

Admissions are done on the basis of performance of the candidate in AIEEE entrance test.

Post Graduate:

Candidates having valid GATE scores are given preference for admission onto the M Tech course. Other eligible candidate can apply under the sponsored having at least two years of working experience in the respective field.
MCA
Applications are selected through NIMCET (National Institute of Technology Common MCA Entrance Test), a common entrance test held by NIITs for admission to MCA.

Doctorate:
Admissions are granted in PhD courses on the grounds of 70% percent weightage to overall academic performance and 30% weightage to the test and Interview conducted by Institute.
