Established in, Lakhimpur (Assam) in 1988, the Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science was only the second veterinary college in the State of Assam and the solitary higher institute of applied sciences on the entire north bank of the Brahmaputra. The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University. The first batch of the college consisted of 20 students. But the lack of facilities and inappropriate infrastructure, the students were enforced to relocate to College of Veterinary Science, AAU, Khanapara.
After the introduction of some facilities, admissions to Lakhimpur Medical College were reopened from 1998, with 20 students in each batch. However, from the session, 2000-01, 20 students were admitted and were subsequently sent from the 2nd year class to the College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara for remaining study, because the college was not prepared adequately for quality education, to keep up the standard of veterinary education in the university. It offers bachelor and research programs in animal husbandry and veterinarysciences. Till now, a total of 114 students have passed out from Lakhimpur Medical College.
