IIT Ropar or Indian Institute of Technology Rupnagar (Punjab) is one of the eight new IITs started by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. IIT Ropar started imparting education from the academic session 2008-2009, within the premises of its mentor institute IIT Delhi, with three undergraduate courses in the field of engineering.
Currently, IIT Ropar is functioning from the temporary campus at Ropar. IIT Ropar, from 2009 session, has invited applications from interested eligible candidates for admission into Ph. D programs offered in Engineering, Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines. The Government of Punjab has allotted an area of 500 acres of land at a serene location, to construct a full-fledged campus for IIT Ropar. The institute, like other IITs, aims to provide comprehensive and quality technical education to the aspirants.
