Indian Institute of Technology Rajasthan, popularly referred to as IIT Jodhpur, is one of the prestigious IITs of India. The initiative of establishing the institute was taken by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, in 2008. The first academic session of the college was started in 2008, within the premises of its mentor institute IIT Kanpur, with four-year B Tech programme in three branches of engineering.
In the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between IIT Rajasthan and JNV University Jodhpur, it has been decided that IIT Rajasthan can conduct classes as a part of the college campus of JNV University Jodhpur, effective from July 2010, for a period of two years. An area of 700 acres of land has been allocated for the setting up IIT Jodhpur campus. Authorities believe that congenial academic atmosphere and the opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities will help in the all-round development of the students.
