AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) was established in 1956 as an autonomous institution through an Act of Parliament. AIIMS was established with the objective of developing patterns of teaching in Undergraduate and Post-graduate Medical Education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of Medical Education in India.
All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi runs a number of undergraduate courses in medicine, nursing and related areas, and postgraduate courses in virtually all the basic and clinical medical specialities and superspecialites. A total of 42 disciplines are taught at AIIMS, New Delhi. Admissions to all the courses are made on the basis of entrance examinations conducted all over the country.

Undergraduate:
Candidate must have passed Higher Secondary (10+2 level) / Intermediate / equivalent examination from a recognized Board with an aggregate of 60% marks in the subjects English, Physics, Chemistry (Organic and Inorganic) and Biology.
Post Graduate:
Candidate must have a MBBS degree for M D / M S from a University recognized by the Medical Council of India and BDS degree for MDS recognized by Dental Council of India with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. Also, the candidate must essentially complete the required period of pre- registration internship (12 months) in a recognized hospital.
Doctorate:
Post Graduation in relevant stream is mandatory to be eligible for doctorate programmes.
Undergraduate:
Admission is done on the basis of candidate’s performance in the entrance test followed a counseling conducted by the institute.
Post Graduate:
Admission is done on the basis of the merit obtained by the candidate in the entrance test followed by counseling.
Doctorate:
Admissions are done through the marks secured by them in the qualifying examination.
