Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test, which is commonly known as TANCET, is a state-level entrance test, conducted by Anna University on behalf of government of Tamil Nadu. The test is designed for the candidates, who wish to seek admission into Management, Computer Application, Engineering, Architecture, Technology and Planning programs at post graduation level.

The syllabus is based on the study done by the applicants at graduation level.
MBA/MCA
No specific syllabus is designed for MBA and MCA programs. Generally, questions are asked to test the reasoning ability, data interpretation, English, mathematics/computer skills. The candidates can practice grammar, correct usage of punctuations, conjunctions, etc and can enhance their vocabulary in order to attempt English section. For mathematics, the candidates can revise all the rules and applications to solve arithmetic, geometry and statistics problems of 10+2/graduation level.
M. Tech/M. Arch/M.E. /M. Planning
The syllabus of mathematics includes Determinants and Matrics, Calculus and ordinary Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Vector calculus, Analytic function theory, Numerical Methods. The syllabus of section testing the basic engineering and science includes Fundamental of Applied Mech., Basic Civil Engineering, Basic Mechanical Engineering, Fundamentals of Mathematics, Fundamentals of Chemistry, Fundamentals of Material Science, Basic Electrical Engineering, Fundamentals of Computers, and Fundamentals of Physics.
M. Tech in Civil Engineering & Geo. Informatics
The syllabus consists of the study of Concrete and Steel Structure, Fluid Mechanics and Water Resources Engineering, Surveying, Remote Sensing, Mechanics of Solids and Structural Analysis, Soil Mechanics and Geo Technical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Geographic Information Systems.
Electrical, Electronics & Communication
Instrumentation and Avionics, the syllabus consists of the study of DC & AC Machines, Communication Systems, Network Analysis, Transducers and Instrumentation, Circuit Theory, Control Systems, Power Electronics, Microprocessors, Computer Applications, and Avionics are included in the syllabus.
Mechanical, Automobile and Aeronautical Engineering
The syllabus includes Material Science and Metallurgy, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Automotive Engines, Aerodynamics, Strength of Materials, Mechanics and Machine Design, Thermo dynamics, Production Technology, Automotive Transmission and Aerospace Propulsion.
Earth Sciences
The syllabus includes Physical Geology and Geo Morphology, Structural Geology, Geo Physics and Engineering Geology, Remote Sensing, Petrology, Economic Geology and Hydro Geology.
Computer Science and Engineering
The topics included in the syllabus are Micro Processor and Hardware Systems, System Programming including Assemblers, Compilers and Operating Systems, Database Systems, Discrete Mathematical Structures, Formal Language and Automatia, Computer Organization and Architecture, Programming Methodology, Algorithms including A1 Algorithm and Data Structures, and Computer Networks.
Production and Industrial Engineering
One has to study Tool Engineering, Metrology and inspection, Machine tool operation, Product Design, Cost Estimate, Process Planning, Design of Jigs and Fixtures and Press Tools, Operations Management, Casting, metal forming and metal joining processes, Engineering Materials, Computer Aided Manufacturing and Processing of Plastics, Operations Research, and Quality Control Reliability and Maintenance.
Applied Probabilities and Statistics
The syllabus includes Measures of central tendency and Dispersion, Random variable, Sampling, sampling distribution and Estimation, Time series, Probability – Introductory ideas, Standard Probability distributions and Correlation and Regression analysis.
Leather Technology
The syllabus of consists of following topics- Chemistry of Proteins – keratin and Collagen, Technologies aspects of various leather manufacture, Leather Machinery, Analysis and Testing of Materials used in Leather as well as Leather Processing, Principles of various pre-tanning, tanning and post-tanning finishing operations, Designing and Construction of Footwear and Leather Goods, Environmental & Management in Leather Industries – Animal and Tannery by-products Utilization
